I can't believe how dumb that article sounds suggesting part time work. Doesn't give any suggestions on what to
do once you get too old and sick to clean restroom bathrooms now, does it?

My JW sibling & his family are coming over friday night
by TTWSYF inso, at my house we have a christmas party annually.
i told my koolaid drinking bro that i'd tone down the xmas part if he and his family would come and they said 'yes'.. my parents and other siblings are very merrily shocked.. my question to this board is....what should i do or say or not do or say to keep the peace should jw topics arise?.
i guess i'm looking for advice to get them to think without scaring them off.. thanks,.

I'm in the same situation with my parents. I am just going to tone it down, not
make a big deal about it. As long as each party understands the other's stance.

The Real Purpose of Shunning Holidays
by metatron inthe watchtower endlessly prates on about pagan traditions in popular holidays - while the bible itself is loaded with subtle pagan religious ideas - such as wicked spirits being cast "into tartarus" (a pagan greek place in which the rebels against zeus got imprisoned) or "sacred secret" - a term the apostle paul likes that was adopted from pagan 'mystery' religions.. then we can throw in the reference to being divinely 'called christians' in acts - which uses a pagan term that refers to demonic oracles of the day.. of course, the watchtower has no objection to accumulating millions of pieces of paper that feature occult symbols (any dollar bill!).
in recent years, for good measure, they have added birthdays and thanksgiving to the official banned list, despite the sketchiest justification for doing so.
if birthdays are wrong simply because they figure in two negative accounts, then it makes much more sense to ban dogs as pets because of all the negativity in the bible about them!.

Something you might find amusing...I invited my parents over Christmas Day for dinner but my
mom asked if we could do it Saturday as Sunday was too "Christmasy." So I'm cooking Christmas
dinner on Christmas Eve....I don't get it. And she made a point of telling me that she couldn't be there
until 5:00 because they have a Bethel speaker. Exactly how most people want to spend their
Christmas Eve, I imagine!

Catching the Manipulation in Sundays Watchtower Article
by Butterflyleia85 ininspired by many on jwn board, my goal is to every sunday study the article and find the manipulative parts.
if you would like to join me that would be great!
we can then find them together and then find what the scriptures or insights truly means with research, our own understanding, or maybe how it should be interpreted to ones self.

This brings back memories of JW articles while I was growing up...do you notice that they list the
"positive" things about a subject ALWAYS followed by another paragraph starting with, However.
Yes, college may be able to get you a better job, etc.. However, you'll probably become an alcoholic,
commit fornication and die of AIDS; that is, if the New System doesn't save you first.

Born ins..Were You Forced to Be a JW Growing Up?
by LostGeneration inmyth: parents who are jehovahs witnesses.
force their children to follow their faith.. fact:witness parents strive to inculcate love.
for god in their offspring, just as the bible.

I couldn't take it anymore and left at 18. Fortunately, I refused to consider getting baptised since
I knew I was going to leave as soon as I could.
I hated the threats. Like God wasn't going to love you if you didn't want to go and sit through
hours of boring crap THREE times a week.
I am actually writing a book on how it was growing up JW AND having a weight issue and how
I finally made peace with myself....

How was the singing in your congro?
by karter inmine as best abysmal.. we had brother ..i can't sing in tune but will sing louder than anyone else.. sister trained opera voice that sang a note or 3 above everyone else.. the rest were just down rite dreadfull..

Everyone sang the soprano line and it was dreadful. I used to particularly hate it when a
long syllable word was compacted to fit the sentence. Thr'out instead of throughout~

Occupy Watchtower
by OnTheWayOut ini stole the idea from a fb friend.
just like occupy wallstreet (and the spread to various cities), imagine people without a single voice picketing wt at brooklyn and having warming barrels loaded with burning watchtower literature.
if you did, what would your sign say?
